69489 - TEACH YOURSELF FINGERPICKING GUITAR
EC-71657 Teach Yourself Rhythm Guitar •  From East Coast    It is often said that rhythm is the driving force of any music. In either case, rhythm is certainly an integral musical element much like, melody and harmony. The guitar is the instrument providing this rhythm especially in Rock, Jazz, Rhythm & Blues. The rhythm guitarist has important a role as the more celebrated lead guitarist in any band. In understanding this fact, Teach Yourself Rhythm Guitar by Paul J. Newman provides a comprehensive instructional approach to learning “how to fill” that essential “Rhythm” role.

EC-71742CD Teach Yourself Scales & Modes • From East Coast
A mode is a scale in which the tonal center has been displaced. It is simply playing a major scale in any given key and beginning and ending on the same note an octave apart which is not necessarily the root of the key. For instance if you play D to D in the key of C using the same accidental rules (as in this case no sharps or flats) it is a Dorian Mode. Dorian begins on the 2nd note in any major scale and finishes on the same note an octave apart. To comprehend then implement these improvisational scales is an important lesson and the melodic basis for many great jazz artists. We can construct a scale starting on any note, arrange the whole steps and half steps in the same manner and it will always sound like a major scale. In other words, it is the arrangement of the whole steps and half steps that give a scale its characteristic sound.

71755 Teach Yourself Lead Guitar wtth CD
Teach Yourself Lead Guitar with CD distributed by Santorella Publications is a self-taught guide to playing lead guitar. Rather than offer a description from the publishers prospective, we thought we would let the author, Mr. Paul J. Newman tell you in his own words.
Teach Yourself Lead Guitar is about playing lead guitar; so what will you find here? It is not a book of scales - -but there are lots of them inside. Nor is it about guitar riffs and licks - - yet many of the musical illustrations are riffs and licks. We talk music theory quite a bit as well - - but no, this is not a theory book.
Teach Yourself Lead Guitar is a “guide book”. We’ll take you around lead guitar country, showing you the landscape, describing the things we come across, hopefully anticipating your questions with the answers.
If you’ve picked up this book then you’re already into music so we don’t need to tell you what a blast it is to play; in fact, a lot of you probably already do to some degree. This book is designed for everybody, from complete beginner to “beginning to be complete” as a player.
